Monastery of Panagia Makariotissis – DOMBRAINA VOIOTIA
In southern slopes of Helicon, above the village of Domvraina, located the male monastery of Panagia Makariwtissis. Its foundation dates back to the 12th century. major renovations made in 1609 and in 1802, where he was decorated with the murals and constructed chancel screen with remarkable images.
Monastery of Evagelistria
On the Green eastern slopes of Helicon, 12 km. South of haliartus and at an altitude of 600 m, stands the monastery of evangelistria. Built in the 12th century and renovated in 1656. The long occupation, the monks of the Holy Monastery of Evagelistria contributed to maintaining the 'romaic ideal working hidden school. Indeed, found a rare crypt in which one only could be put under the spot where stood the altar, inside the sanctuary of the temple. The crypt was dedicated to the Holy Trinity and not only strewn with small pupils and other treasures of the monastery which had to guard against the Muslims. But later, even in the years of World War II, the monastery of Evagelistria willingly helped the Greeks and their allies, utilizing again this cache. The Evangelistria constitutes one of the monasteries that were removed on Otto after the creation of the Greek State and the property received in the Ecclesiastical Treasury. Since 1959 it works as a convent and has a laboratory of weavers. It has about twenty five nuns and celebrates on 25th March.
Hosios Loukas is situated on the western slopes of Helicon below the acropolis of the ancient town of Steiri, near the village of sterile, in Boeotia. It is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine art and architecture and is included in the world heritage list of UNESCO, together with the other two surviving monasteries of the Middle Byzantine period in Greece, Nea Moni Monastery of Daphni. The Saint Luke is however larger and differs from Daphni Monastery and the New that is dedicated to a single Blessed, by Saint Luke in one of the finest.
